Grant Awarded for Moore County Strategic Plan

April 21, 2017

Moore County Partners in Progress has been awarded a $25,000 grant from The Palmer Foundation that provides the remainder of the funding needed to complete a community and economic development strategic plan for Moore County.

Partners in Progress (PIP) is the nonprofit economic development organization serving all of Moore County. “We have been a front-line observer to the macro-level challenges that all of Moore County is facing,” said Pat Corso, PIP’s Executive Director. “A growing population, changing demographics, and the economic disparities between the northern and southern ends of the county are among the primary issues that have created unique challenges that leadership must address if growth and development are to be prudently directed and managed now and long-term.”

PIP spearheaded the project to create a countywide economic development strategic plan as the framework for addressing these issues. They have contracted with The Hayes Group to complete a 4-phased approach for creating and implementing the plan by October 2017. The Duke Energy Foundation, in addition to the Randolph, Central and Pee Dee Electric Membership Corporations, contributed funds for phases 1 and 2, and the grant award from The Palmer Foundation will enable the completion of phases 3 and 4.

“These partnering organizations want to see Moore County’s continued success and prosperity,” Corso said. “We greatly appreciate their contributions that are funding this project.”

The ultimate goal of the strategic plan is to enable Moore County to act proactively and take advantage of the changes that are occurring and use them to stimulate new opportunities that will strengthen communities, enhance the quality of life for residents, and augment economic development and marketing efforts to attract job-creating industry and capital investment. “We want to protect what the County has now that makes us great and we want to look ahead so we can be better in the future than we are now,” said Corso.
