North Carolina has the 3rd largest military presence in the world. For Moore County, this fact has even more significance because 2 of the state’s military installations are right next door! Fort Bragg and Pope Field, plus Camp Mackall, are adjacent to our county borders. The Fort Bragg / Pope Field Reservation adjoins the southeastern border of Moore County, while Camp Mackall is adjacent to our southern tip.

About FORT BRAGG (FY 2009):
- The world’s largest airborne facility: Home of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, XVIII Airborne Corps and Special Operations Command (USASOC);
- The largest U.S. army base by population, and one of the largest military installations in the world employing almost 53,000 military personnel and over 12,500 civilian workers on post;
- Including soldiers, civilians, family members and retirees, over 250,000 people are associated with Fort Bragg;
- Has an annual estimated economic impact of over $9.48 billion on the surrounding 11-county area;
- Current new, maintenance & repair construction on base totals over $610 million.

Moore County is able to benefit from the economic impact of these installations without the military environment infringing upon our lifestyle here — even though we are only 35 minutes from post headquarters. A large number of servicemen and women live in Moore County with their families and make the easy 35-minute commute daily. The County also has many retired military personnel who have settled here to enjoy the unsurpassed quality of life.
The convenient proximity to these installations makes Moore County an excellent location for defense-related companies and creates numerous opportunities for almost any type of business locating or starting up here. - In 2010, 65 U.S. defense contracts totaling $25,848,359 were awarded to companies in Moore County.
In response to the military’s presence and influence, the Moore County Chamber of Commerce has created a Military Affairs Division to help local companies become aware and take advantage of contract opportunities and also to encourage businesses to support the base and its troops.
In addition to the Military Affairs Division, the North Carolina Military Business Center and MatchForce are valuable resources available to assist local companies with military business opportunities.
