The stores and shops in Moore County are frequented not only by residents and tourists, but also by the residents of the surrounding counties who view Moore County as a shopping destination. In the past several years, Moore County has seen a tremendous increase in retail construction.

Camellia Parke Shoppes, located within Olmsted Village, Pinehurst, is a 100,000 square foot lifestyle center featuring upscale retail, specialty shops, and restaurants with a New England architectural style.

The Retail Trade sector is the 3rd largest private-sector employer in the county. Its impact is also seen in tourist expenditures:
In 2009, on an average day, visitors spent approximately $201,538 daily on food and beverages, and $158,415 daily for retail purchases at a variety of shops and stores in Moore County.

RETAIL OPPORTUNITIES
Retail economic opportunities are plentiful with a variety of retail spaces and sites available.
Located next to Comfort Inn on U.S. Highway 15-501 in Pinehurst, Fairway Village is a new 14,400 square-foot retail development. Tenants currently include Hickory Tavern and Fratello’s Italian restaurant. A second phase, Fairway Village II, is planned beside Fairway Village for completion by June, 2014 and will feature 30,000 square feet of space.
Mill Creek Village is at the intersection of Airport Road and NC Highway 22 near Whispering Pines. The development’s anchor store, Harris Teeter, is now open, and 18,000 square feet of smaller retail spaces and 4 outparcels are also available.
Construction is underway on a new, 24-acre mixed-use development just off of U.S. Highway 15-501 and Morganton Road. Southern Pines Village will feature approximately 180,000 to 200,000 square feet of retail space that includes a Kohl’s department store.
