Effective July 1, 2008, the maximum funding awarded is $25,000 per year. A company may not receive more than $40,000 in grant funds during its lifetime.
To qualify for this program, a company must meet the following criteria:- Must be a private organization, either for-profit or a non-profit entity that generates revenue;
- Must have been in operation in North Carolina for at least the entire 12-month period preceeding the application for funds;
- Must be current on all North Carolina, county and local tax obligations;
The proposed training program must be for the purpose of upgrading employee skills, providing portable training skills and/or for business retention. The applicant must also be able to demonstrate measurable employee-related and employer-related benefits directly resulting from training.
Unless otherwise approved, the training must begin within 60 days of the grant award and be completed within 12 months. A company submits the grant application to the Local Workforce Development Board, which in turn, must submit it to the Commission on Workforce Development in accordance with the following 2007-2008 schedule:
