Moore County
Moore County Public Utilities supplies water service to over 10,000 customers and sewer service to over 6,500 customers. Service areas include Addor, East Moore district, Hyland Hills, Pinehurst, Seven Lakes, Vass, Jackson Hamlet, West End, and The Carolina (Golf Club in Whispering Pines).
Water: - Water is contracted from the Town of Southern Pines (treated surface water from Drowning Creek) at a rate of 250,000 gallons per day (gpd) to serve Pinehurst, Addor and The Carolina. Water is contracted from the Town of Aberdeen at a rate of 200,000 gpd, and also purchased from the Town of Robbins. More water can be purchased from either source if necessary. The water supply for Pinehurst is supplemented by 18 operational wells that draw ground water from the Middendorf Aquifer.
- For the East Moore Water District, fully treated surface water is purchased from Harnett County, whose source water is the Cape Fear River.
- For the Vass area, Public Utilities purchases fully treated surface water from the East Moore Water District for up to 2.0 million gallons per day (mgd).
- The Hyland Hills area uses 1 well to draw groundwater from the Middendorf Aquifer.
- Seven Lakes uses 3 operational wells to draw groundwater from the Middendorf Aquifer. In addition, a booster pump station pumps treated drinking water from the Village of Pinehurst to Seven Lakes.
- Projected Service Area Demand for 2010 = 2.78 million gallons per day (mgd).
- Projected Available Water Supply for 2010 = 6.78 million gallons per day (mgd).
- Water lines vary in size from 2 to 20 inches depending on the location.
Sewer: - Public Utilities operates and maintains a 6.7 million gallons per day (mgd) Wastewater Treatment Plant with the main facility in Addor. In 2004, the Plant treated an average of 4.699 mgd. It must approve any flow to the system, and any wastewater that requires pre-treatment is also subject to approval according to the existing pretreatment ordinance. Each request is handled in a case by case basis.
- Most sewer lines are 8 inches in diameter and discharge to county interceptors that vary in size from 10 to 48 inches in diameter.

Town of Aberdeen - Water is supplied to the Town of Aberdeen through 16 wells that can collectively yield 2,547 gallons per minute. The water plant's Total capacity is 1.82 million gallons per day (mgd). Currently, usage is between 1.1 and 1.4 mgd. Depending on the location, sizes of the water lines range from 2 to 14 inches in diameter.
- Aberdeen’s Sewer Distribution System can currently handle flow up to 700,000 gallons per day (gpd). Aberdeen’s system feeds to the Moore County Public Utilities treatment facility.

Town of Cameron - Cameron’s water supply consists of 3 wells that can collectively yield 123 gallons per minute. Capacity is almost 180,000 gallons per day (gpd). Water lines range from 2 to 8 inches in diameter.
- Sewer is not available in Cameron.

Town of Carthage The Town of Carthage’s Water Treatment Plant uses a Continuous Microfiltration System that can easily be expanded for residential and business customers as Carthage grows.
- Carthage’s water source is Nick’s Creek. The Water Plant currently has a 1.0 million gallons per day (mgd) capacity using 4 water storage tanks. Usage is approximately 180,000 gallons per day (gpd). Depending on the location, water lines are 2, 6, 8 or 12 inches in diameter.
- Sewer service is available in Carthage. The Town uses a lagoon, which collects approximately 111,000 gallons per day (gpd). Sewer lines are 6 or 8 inches, and sewer taps are 4 inches. The wastewater is pumped from the lagoon to the Moore County Public Utilities treatment facility.

Foxfire Village - Water is supplied to Foxfire Village from 6 wells that can collectively yield 300 gallons per minute. The water storage tank has a 200,000-gallon capacity. Current usage is 50,000 to 55,000 gallons per day (gpd).
- Sewer is not available in Foxfire Village.

Town of Pinebluff - The Town of Pinebluff’s water supply consists of 4 wells that can collectively yield 381 gallons per minute, in addition to purchasing water from the Town of Southern Pines. The water plant's capacity is 262,800 gallons per day (gpd). Average usage is 110,000 gpd (peak is 152,000 gpd) with available capacity at 152,800 gpd.
- The only sewer service available within the town limits of Pinebluff is in Oakland Hills, east of US Highway 1 on the east side of town. Sewer is not available in Pinebluff’s Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).

Village of Pinehurst - The Village of Pinehurst’s water is supplied through Moore County Public Utilities. The water comes from 18 operational wells, in addition to purchasing water from the Town of Southern Pines (treated surface water from Drowning Creek) and the Town of Aberdeen (groundwater from the Middendorf Aquifer).
- Sewer in Pinehurst is handled through Moore County Public Utilities.

Town of Robbins - The Reservoir of Bear Creek and Cabin Creek is the water source for the Town of Robbins, in addition to surface water purchased from Montgomery County (Yadkin & Pee Dee Rivers). Maximum capacity is 1.5 million gallons per day (mgd). Water storage consists of (1) 100,000-gallon elevated tank and (2) 300,000-gallon elevated tanks. Depending on the location, water lines range in size from 2 to 12 inches in diameter.
- The Sewer System for Robbins is an extended aeration facility with a design capacity of 1.3 mgd. Depending on the location, the sewer lines range in size from 4 to 12 inches in diameter.

Town of Southern Pines - The Town of Southern Pines' source of water is Drowning Creek. The Town's water plant has a capacity of producing 11.0 million gallons per day (mgd), but is limited to a maximum 8.0 mgd from Drowning Creek under its current permit. The Town has 4 wells that can collectively yield 740 gallons of water per minute. The water is stored in elevated storage tanks.
Approximately 250,000 gallons per day is sold to Moore County, and average usage for Southern Pines is 3.0 mgd. Water lines are a maximum of 18 inches in diameter depending on the location.
- Southern Pines’ 16 sewer pump stations collect approximately 1.4 million gallons per day (mgd) and delivers it to the Moore County Public Utilities treatment facility. Sewer lines are between 6 and 24 inches in diameter.

Village of Whispering Pines - The Village of Whispering Pines purchases its water from a private company, Carolina Water Service (910-949-2010). Carolina Water Service purchases the water from the Town of Southern Pines and resells it to residential and commercial users. Fees charged are based on actual consumption.
- Sewer is not available in Whispering Pines.
