Air Quality / Emissions Standards

Based on the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), Moore County has an "attainment" air quality status as designated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). This rating means that Moore County’s air has not exceeded the limits set for six main pollutants: carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, ozone and sulfur oxides. Areas that are in violation of the NAAQS for one or more of the main pollutants are given a nonattainment status.

Moore County’s attainment status makes it easier for industries to locate or expand here. Businesses don’t have to worry about the stringent permits required in nonattainment areas, nor having to purchase emissions credits from other industry in the area.
