Relocation/Retirement

The unsurpassed quality of life is the primary reason so many people want to make Moore County their home.

Moore County offers a rural, low-key lifestyle with a level of sophistication virtually unavailable anywhere else.

But don’t take our word for it.  The December 2009 issue of Money magazine highlights the 25 Best Places to Retire in the United States, and the Village of Pinehurst is ranked #4.   >> Click here to read the article about Pinehurst, “a friendly year-round community with a bustling downtown, first-rate regional hospital, and mild weather.”

Moore County is home to a large percentage of active retirees, who are attracted by the golf, temperate climate, exceptional medical services, and numerous senior care services.  A July, 2009 population estimate reflects that 23.5% of Moore County’s population is 65 years and older.  As a result, Moore County offers many retirement communities, independent and assisted living facilities, in-home health care services and other specialty services for seniors.  This senior segment of our population is a major contributor to our local economy and offers unique opportunities for businesses here.

The Moore County Senior Enrichment Center, located at 8040 U.S. Highway 15-501 between Pinehurst and Carthage, offers a broad variety of senior enrichment activities including workshops, classes and social gatherings. For more information, call 910-215-0900.

Sandhills Community College includes the Center for Creative Retirement, part of the College’s Division of Continuing Education.  The Center for Creative Retirement offers classes and programs to enhance the intellectual, physical and personal well-being of active retirees in the area.

Not Just Retirees
While Moore County is a desirable place to retire, it has much to offer other age groups as well.  Younger adults and families with children will discover that business and employment opportunities are plentiful, the communities are affordable, and the strong schools and safe neighborhoods make Moore County a great place to raise a family.
